Clin­i­cal Infor­mat­ics is look­ing at a range of capa­bil­i­ty build­ing enablers. One of these is through spon­sor­ship and sup­port of SA Health staff to under­take the Cer­ti­fied Health Infor­mati­cian Aus­trala­sia certificate.

Cer­ti­fied Health Infor­mati­cian Aus­trala­sia Pro­gram (CHIA)

CHIA is a pro­fes­sion­al cer­ti­fi­ca­tion pro­gram in health infor­mat­ics man­aged by the Aus­tralasian Insti­tute of Dig­i­tal Health (AIDH).

The pro­gram is aimed at work­ers across health infor­mat­ics and infor­ma­tion tech­nol­o­gy roles, and once cer­ti­fied, par­tic­i­pants can demon­strate exper­tise in health infor­mat­ics princi­ples, con­cepts, meth­ods and skills, with the abil­i­ty to apply these in the workplace.

What is the cur­rent state of sponsorship?

Applica­tions are cur­rent­ly open. 


To be eli­gi­ble, par­tic­i­pants must:

  • Have a degree plus six con­tin­u­ous months of asso­ci­at­ed health experience
  • No degree but at least three cumu­la­tive years of asso­ci­at­ed health expe­ri­ence.

    Asso­ci­at­ed health expe­ri­ence includes: clin­i­cal health­care and well­ness, health administration/​management, edu­ca­tion, pub­lic health, health infor­ma­tion man­age­ment, health infor­mat­ics, infor­ma­tion and com­mu­ni­ca­tion tech­nol­o­gy, infor­ma­tion sys­tems, health­care and well­ness research, data ana­lyt­ics, soft­ware archi­tec­ture, cyber secu­ri­ty, and project and pro­gram man­age­ment.

    Each posi­tion pre­sent­ed as asso­ci­at­ed health expe­ri­ence must have been held for a min­i­mum of six months and with­in the last ten years.

  2. Include your resume with your appli­ca­tion.

    Your resume needs to be tai­lored and demon­strate your respon­si­bil­i­ties and expe­ri­ence rel­e­vant to the eli­gi­bil­i­ty cri­te­ria. Include as much rel­e­vant infor­ma­tion as pos­si­ble — only includ­ing your job titles or list­ed employ­ment his­to­ry will not be sufficient.
