The Clinical Council guides improvements and innovation in patient care across South Australia.

What is the Clin­i­cal Council?

The Clin­i­cal Coun­cil is the peak clin­i­cal body respon­si­ble for pro­vid­ing clin­i­cal engage­ment and input into statewide and strate­gic deci­sions that affect clin­i­cal care in South Australia.

It con­sists of a team of clin­i­cal lead­ers, con­sumer rep­re­sen­ta­tives and senior admin­is­tra­tors who pur­sue clin­i­cal improve­ment through innovation. 

The Clin­i­cal Coun­cil pro­vides rec­om­men­da­tions and inde­pen­dent, impar­tial strate­gic advice and advo­ca­cy to senior SA Health lead­ers, the Statewide Clin­i­cal Net­works, and oth­er high lev­el clin­i­cal groups on health sys­temwide clin­i­cal improve­ment and inno­va­tion, with a focus on the qual­i­ty, afford­abil­i­ty, effi­cien­cy and sus­tain­abil­i­ty of patient care.

Our pur­pose

The over­ar­ch­ing pur­pose of the Clin­i­cal Coun­cil is to:

  • pro­vide rec­om­men­da­tions and inde­pen­dent and impar­tial strate­gic advice about sys­temwide issues that affect qual­i­ty, afford­abil­i­ty, effi­cien­cy, access, equi­ty and sus­tain­abil­i­ty of patient care
  • review and pro­vide advice on the sys­temwide clin­i­cal impacts of pro­posed changes to patient care (e.g. mod­els of care, plan­ning and deliv­ery of health ser­vices etc.)
  • pro­vide a forum for col­lab­o­ra­tion on com­plex sys­temwide issues, share best prac­tice, and learn from and sup­port each other
  • pro­vide oppor­tu­ni­ties for broad­er sys­temwide clin­i­cal col­lab­o­ra­tion to com­plex sys­temwide issues (e.g. sec­tor wide ses­sions or forums on pri­or­i­ty issues)
  • fos­ter a cul­ture of excel­lence and inno­va­tion with­in the health system.
