The CEIH, in partnership with the South Australian Comprehensive Cancer Network (SACCaN), shared progress at the South Australian Upper GI Cancer Interest Group biannual clinical research update meeting on 13 May 2026 at the Adelaide Marriott Hotel.
The meeting brought together a diverse multidisciplinary audience, including medical and radiation oncologists, Upper GI surgeons, research fellows, junior trainees, nurse coordinators, allied health professionals and industry representatives. It provided an important forum for sharing emerging research and strengthening collaboration across the Upper GI cancer community.
The presentation focused on the work underway to use cancer data to help drive improved outcomes and support Optimal Care Pathways (OCPs). A progress update was provided on the co‑development of clinical quality indicators for oesophago-gastric cancer, a key step toward understanding how consistently and equitably care is delivered across South Australia.
Attendees expressed a strong interest in establishing a statewide, data‑enabled approach to measuring, reporting and analysing cancer care quality, and in how these insights could support efforts to identify and address unwarranted variation in practice.
The engagement reinforced the value of clinician-led, system wide collaboration to improve cancer outcomes for South Australians.
