What is the South Aus­tralian Can­cer Registry?

The South Aus­tralian Can­cer Reg­istry (SACR) pro­vides insights into can­cer-affect­ed pop­u­la­tions and can­cer risk fac­tors through the mon­i­tor­ing of can­cer inci­dence, mor­tal­i­ty and sur­vival across South Australia.

The SACR has been col­lect­ing data about can­cer since 1977. This evi­dence base enables con­tin­u­ous mon­i­tor­ing of can­cer inci­dence pat­terns over time, informs pre­ven­tion activ­i­ties and allows for prompt response to pub­lic con­cerns about clus­ters of can­cer or region­al eval­u­a­tions when required.

The SACR data is pro­vid­ed to the Aus­tralian Insti­tute of Health and Wel­fare and con­tributes to nation­al and inter­na­tion­al can­cer insights, report­ing and research.

South Aus­tralian Clin­i­cal Can­cer Registry

The South Aus­tralian Clin­i­cal Can­cer Reg­istry com­ple­ments the SACR by col­lect­ing more detailed clin­i­cal infor­ma­tion for a sub­set of can­cer types, such as can­cer stage, grade and treat­ment course at select­ed sites.
