The Clinical Council is the peak clinical body responsible for providing clinical engagement and input into statewide and strategic decisions that affect clinical care in South Australia.
It consists of a team of clinical leaders, consumer representatives and senior administrators who pursue clinical improvement through innovation. The Clinical Council provides recommendations and independent, impartial strategic advice and advocacy to senior SA Health leaders, the Statewide Clinical Networks, and other high level clinical groups on health systemwide clinical improvement and innovation, with a focus on the quality, affordability, efficiency and sustainability of patient care.
Our purpose
The overarching purpose of the Clinical Council is to:
- provide recommendations and independent and impartial strategic advice about systemwide issues that affect quality, affordability, efficiency, access, equity and sustainability of patient care
- review and provide advice on the systemwide clinical impacts of proposed changes to patient care (e.g. models of care, planning and delivery of health services etc.)
- provide a forum for collaboration on complex systemwide issues, share best practice, and learn from and support each other
- provide opportunities for broader systemwide clinical collaboration to complex systemwide issues (e.g. sector wide sessions or forums on priority issues)
- foster a culture of excellence and innovation within the health system.
