South Australian Registry Data Shapes National Reporting

The CEIH is now the data cus­to­di­an of South Aus­trali­a’s can­cer and preg­nan­cy out­comes pop­u­la­tion health registries.

These reg­istries pro­vide valu­able infor­ma­tion that sup­ports health­care plan­ning, research and improve­ment across the state.

In August 2026, South Aus­tralia suc­cess­ful­ly sub­mit­ted 2024 Peri­na­tal Sta­tis­tics and Mater­nal and Peri­na­tal Mor­tal­i­ty data to the Aus­tralian Insti­tute of Health and Wel­fare (AIHW). These col­lec­tions con­tribute to nation­al datasets that pro­vide impor­tant insights into preg­nan­cy, birth, and peri­na­tal out­comes, sup­port­ing evi­dence-based deci­sion-mak­ing across the health system.

This achieve­ment reflects the col­lab­o­ra­tive efforts of reg­istry coders, the Infor­ma­tion Sys­tems team and data providers who suc­cess­ful­ly deliv­ered the sub­mis­sion dur­ing a peri­od of organ­i­sa­tion­al tran­si­tion.

The team is now prepar­ing the SA Can­cer Reg­istry’s 2023 can­cer data sub­mis­sion to the Aus­tralian Can­cer Data­base, due in Sep­tem­ber 2026, con­tin­u­ing South Aus­trali­a’s long-stand­ing con­tri­bu­tion to nation­al can­cer surveillance.
