HIRAID® Nursing Framework

HIRAID® is the only validated framework designed to support emergency nurses in assessing and managing emergency department patients after triage. It combines all essential elements in delivery of safe, quality nursing care.

The opportunity

HIRAID® stands for History (including Infection risk), Red Flags, Assessment, Interventions and Diagnostics and is the only validated framework designed to enable emergency nurses to systematically and consistently assess patients.

Following extensive consultation, the Emergency Care Subcommittee of the Urgent and Emergent Care Statewide Clinical Network (UECSCN) identified the opportunity to decrease clinical practice variation in nursing assessments, across metropolitan and regional Emergency Departments.

The project focused on delivering the HIRAID framework designed to improve equitable access to care and promote workforce sustainability.
