We’ve introduced a Precision Medicine Blueprint to support the advancement of healthcare in South Australia. This strategic document aims to foster collaboration and drive the development of a healthcare ecosystem that delivers personalised, effective, and efficient care to all South Australians.
Precision medicine is an innovative approach to health that incorporates an individual’s genetic make-up, environmental, and lifestyle factors. Precision medicine offers the potential to improve patient outcomes, enhance experiences, reduce variations in care, and optimise resource utilisation.
We are committed to creating a unified approach to precision medicine across the state. Our vision is to create a healthcare ecosystem that leverages precision medicine to deliver personalised, effective, and efficient care to all.
The blueprint identifies five key priority areas:
- Supporting infrastructure and service models
- Workforce, education and training
- Integrated big data and analytics
- Research, innovation, and translation
- Community education and health literacy
At the CEIH, we see our role as facilitating collaboration among diverse stakeholders, fostering knowledge sharing and strategy development to advance precision medicine statewide. The Commission is actively engaged in several initiatives, including enhancing data integration, streamlining genomic testing processes, supporting workforce education, and developing statewide clinical pathways.
Through our Statewide Clinical Networks(SCN) like the Cancer SCN and the Clinical Genomics SCN, we are driving the implementation of precision medicine across South Australia. The blueprint also emphasizes the importance of consumer engagement to ensure public involvement in precision medicine applications.
