Statewide Patient Reported Measures

Capturing patients’ perspectives of their own health and experiences.

What is it?

The PRMs Program seeks to empower patients to tell healthcare professionals about the impact of their health condition on their life, quality of life and their experience of the health system.

The PRMs Program will provide a standardised approach across the state for the systematic collection, analysis and timely reporting of PROMs and PREMs.

  • PROMs: Patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) capture the patient’s perspectives about how illness or care impacts on their health and wellbeing
  • PREMs: Patient-reported experience measures (PREMs) capture the patient’s experience of the health services they receive, such as accessibility, the physical environment, and aspects of their interactions with clinicians

The PRMs Program will be enabled by a system-wide digital solution that allows for the electronic collection of PRMs.

Results will be available during clinical encounters to enable patients and clinicians to make decisions together.

Aggregated data will also be available to use as a measure of service quality, and at a system level to drive continuous improvement and inform value-based healthcare models.

Why do we need it?

The program was established in response to a snapshot analysis of PROMs-PREMs implementation by key stakeholders that found:

  • There is considerable variation in data collection and reporting, and its use is within a narrow range of settings.
  • There needs to be a systematic approach across the state to make data available in real-time to inform clinician and consumer decision-making.
