Health infor­mat­ics is the appli­ca­tion of infor­ma­tion tech­nol­o­gy to health­care and plays a vital role in improv­ing the qual­i­ty of patient care, help­ing to reduce health­care costs, and enhanc­ing the effi­cien­cy of health­care oper­a­tions. It is a rapid­ly evolv­ing field, and requires lead­ers who can think cre­ative­ly, adapt to change, take risks, embrace new tech­nolo­gies and have an ongo­ing com­mit­ment to learn­ing and development. 

The Cer­ti­fied Health Infor­mati­cian Aus­trala­sia (CHIA) is an inter­na­tion­al­ly recog­nised cer­ti­fi­ca­tion through the peak health infor­mat­ics body AIDH (Aus­tralasian Insti­tute of Dig­i­tal Health) that demon­strates cer­tifi­cate hold­ers have a deep lev­el of knowl­edge and exper­tise across mul­ti­ple domains in health infor­mat­ics. Achiev­ing CHIA is not for every­one – it requires self-guid­ed study across mul­ti­ple domains.

We are excit­ed to announce that the next round of the CEIH spon­sored CHIA Expres­sion of Inter­est will open on the 15 May 2023 for two weeks. If you’re inter­est­ed in advanc­ing your knowl­edge and skills in inte­grat­ed health­care and health infor­ma­tion tech­nol­o­gy, this oppor­tu­ni­ty is for you!

CHIA is designed for pro­fes­sion­als who are involved in the design, imple­men­ta­tion, and man­age­ment of health infor­ma­tion sys­tems. Lead­ers who hold the CHIA cer­ti­fi­ca­tion are abreast with the lat­est health infor­mat­ics trends and can effec­tive­ly lead their organ­i­sa­tions through the imple­men­ta­tion of new tech­nolo­gies and processes.

Some of the key skills and com­pe­ten­cies that CHIA-cer­ti­fied pro­fes­sion­als pos­sess include: 

  • Knowl­edge of health infor­mat­ics stan­dards and regulations 
  • Pro­fi­cien­cy in health infor­ma­tion sys­tem design, imple­men­ta­tion, and management 
  • Exper­tise in clin­i­cal deci­sion sup­port systems 
  • Under­stand­ing of elec­tron­ic health records and health infor­ma­tion exchange 
  • Knowl­edge of health data ana­lyt­ics and reporting
