Commission on Excellence and Innovation in Health

Gathering to Collaborate, to Innovate

18 Apr 2023

At the CEIH, we continue to pursue new and improved ways of providing high quality health care and recognise that a key ingredient in this process is the adoption of innovative approaches that contribute to an overall Culture of Innovation’.

Currently across the health eco-system there is no single, consistent, state-wide architecture for identifying, developing and mobilising innovations across the sector.

The exploration of literature, evidence, and consultation with the sector, uncovered a need to create more opportunities for cooperation and partnering across the state’s health landscape. To achieve a culture of innovation in South Australia, it is clear a dedicated mechanism for connection, information-exchange and joint-action must be present.

On 6 March 2023, we joined with Northern Adelaide Local Health Network (NALHN) and Daitum (Artificial Intelligence Company) to host a workshop at the innovation precinct at Lot Fourteen, with public and private health representatives to explore the idea of developing the Innovation Collaborative to address this gap.

During the session, attendees responded to a series of questions and collectively agreed the Innovation Collaboration concept should be pursued. The group agreed it will provide a marketplace to share ideas, a forum to investigate systemic challenges, a coalition for joint-resourcing of large-scale projects and a high-profile communication medium for promoting innovation.

The group also recognised the challenges of creating such a construct, and as a result, a follow up workshop will be held on 9 May 2023, to continue refining the Innovation Collaborative.
