Igniting Innovation 2024 brings innovation to SA Health’s workforce

Inno­va­tion is fre­quent­ly dis­cussed in health­care, yet its prac­ti­cal appli­ca­tion remains elu­sive. To bridge this gap, we part­nered with SA Health’s Young Pro­fes­sion­als Group (YPG) to host the ​‘Ignit­ing Inno­va­tion’ con­fer­ence in May 2024. This event aimed to inspire, moti­vate, and empow­er the SA Health work­force through a com­bi­na­tion of engag­ing work­shops and enlight­en­ing pre­sen­ta­tions from indus­try leaders.

Dri­ving par­tic­i­pa­tion across South Australia

Demon­strat­ing a strong com­mit­ment to equi­ty, the CEIH spon­sored nine region­al SA Health staff mem­bers by cov­er­ing their trans­port, accom­mo­da­tion, and event tick­et costs. The Rur­al Sup­port Ser­vice pro­vid­ed invalu­able assis­tance by arrang­ing accom­mo­da­tion and flights for all atten­dees. Addi­tion­al­ly, sev­en schol­ar­ships were award­ed to First Nations par­tic­i­pants.

Our diverse audi­ence com­prised rep­re­sen­ta­tives from every Local Health Net­work in South Aus­tralia, span­ning 50 pro­fes­sions and age groups from 19 to 72 years old. The event fos­tered a rich social envi­ron­ment for SA Health staff.

Inno­va­tion unleashed at a sold-out workshop

The CEI­H’s sold-out work­shop fos­tered unprece­dent­ed col­lab­o­ra­tion among diverse dis­ci­plines and sec­tors with­in SA Health. Par­tic­i­pants co-cre­at­ed inno­v­a­tive solu­tions while gain­ing prac­ti­cal insights into the inno­va­tion jour­ney. The work­shop’s impact was sub­stan­tial: over 95% of atten­dees deep­ened their under­stand­ing of inno­va­tion, and a remark­able 83% expressed con­fi­dence in apply­ing these learn­ings to their roles. 

Inspir­ing speak­ers and engag­ing discussions

Host­ed by YPG, the con­fer­ence fea­tured a stel­lar line­up of speak­ers, includ­ing our Com­mis­sion­er Prof. Kei­th McNeil. These indus­try lead­ers shared their exper­tise on var­i­ous aspects of inno­va­tion. These dis­cus­sions inspired and equipped the atten­dees with action­able insights, such as the impor­tance of psy­cho­log­i­cal safe­ty, to dri­ve inno­va­tion for­ward. The event was a resound­ing suc­cess, with 98% of atten­dees rec­om­mend­ing it to colleagues.
