The opportunity
Excellence manifests in organisations that are serious about adopting a sustainable approach to improving workplace wellbeing through meaningful, and data informed engagement with employees.
We have partnered with the Women’s and Children’s Health Network (WCHN) to deliver a collaborative applied research workplace wellbeing project, aiming to improve employees’ experience and wellbeing at work.
Through this partnership, the CEIH and WCHN can contribute to national and international research by demonstrating how the multi-modal co-design approach in CEIH’s Building Sustainable Healthcare Workplace Wellbeing framework actually works in practice.
Our Approach
The partnership project between WCHN and the CEIH involves the implementation of CEIH’s Building Sustainable Healthcare Workplace Wellbeing framework within two WCHN clinical divisions throughout 2024 and 2025.
A Steering Committee oversees the applied research project, consisting of four key phases:
- Assessment of workplace wellbeing factors utilising organisational performance metrics and staff perception survey measures.
- Delivery of ‘Ask & Listen’ sessions for staff to share what matters to them and impacts their experience and wellbeing at work.
- Co-design and implementation of solutions to work-related factors identified in phase 1 and 2.
- Sustainability and evaluation of project outcomes and impact.
This exciting initiative aligns with CEIH’s 2024 – 2027 Strategic Direction, focusing on building workforce sustainability and advocacy for safe, healthy, and thriving workplaces.

Activities and Outcomes
The primary project activities across the two WCHN clinical divisions have been completed with engagement from over 600 healthcare workers.
From December 2025 to May 2026, the project and research will be in the evaluation phase.
The project has already yielded valuable data and insights, identifying key learnings for future healthcare worker initiatives and offers the opportunity to evaluate the effectiveness of implementing our Building Sustainable Healthcare Workplace Wellbeing framework in an acute healthcare setting.
The evaluation is due to finish in June 2026 and research findings will be shared more broadly. Watch this space!
