Advancing workplace wellbeing through a WCHN partnership project

The CEIH and WCHN have partnered to enhance workplace wellbeing through a collaborative research project. Implementing CEIH’s framework in two clinical divisions, the project follows four key phases: assessment, engagement, co-design, and evaluation.

The opportunity

Excellence is found in organisations that are serious about adopting a sustainable approach to improving workplace wellbeing through meaningful, and data informed engagement with employees.

We have partnered with the Women’s and Children’s Health Network (WCHN) to deliver a collaborative applied research workplace wellbeing project, aiming to improve employees’ experience and wellbeing at work.

This partnership provides the opportunity for the CEIH and WCHN to contribute to national and international research and literature through evidencing the effectiveness of implementing a multi-modal co-design intervention approach as outlined in CEIH’s Building Sustainable Healthcare Workplace Wellbeing framework.

Our Approach

The partnership between project WCHN and CEIH involves the implementation of CEIH’s Building Sustainable Healthcare Workplace Wellbeing framework within two WCHN clinical divisions throughout 2024 and 2025.

A Steering Committee will oversee the applied research project, consisting of four key phases:

  • Assessment of workplace wellbeing factors utilising organisational performance metrics and staff perception survey measures.
  • Delivery of Ask & Listen’ sessions for staff to share what matters to them and impacts their experience and wellbeing at work.
  • Co-design and implementation of solutions to work-related factors identified in phase 1 and 2.
  • Sustainability and evaluation of project outcomes and impact.

This exciting initiative aligns with CEIH’s 2024 – 2027 Strategic Direction, focusing on building workforce sustainability and advocacy for safe, healthy, and thriving workplaces.

Outcomes

Phase 1 and 2 of the project has been successfully delivered between November 2024 and January 2025. The project has engaged with over 150 WCHN employees to date across two clinical divisions. Preparations are now underway for the co-design phase to design impactful work elements aiming to reduce job stress and burnout.

The project has already yielded valuable data and insights and identified key learnings for future healthcare worker initiatives and will offer the opportunity to evaluate the effectiveness of implementing our Building Sustainable Healthcare Workplace Wellbeing framework in an acute healthcare setting.

The project is due to conclude in November 2025 and research findings will be shared more broadly. Watch this space!
