The Cardiac Care Statewide Clinical Network spans all areas of cardiology and cardiothoracic surgery, including paediatric, required to provide a comprehensive cardiac care service to all South Australians. The Network is focussed on equity of access to cardiac care services for all South Australian’s and regardless of where patients reside across South Australia, embracing both therapeutic and device innovations.
Associate Professor Christine Burdeniuk is a Senior Staff Cardiologist at SALHN, bringing a wealth of experience and expertise to this role, having dedicated many years to advancing cardiac care through her clinical practice, education and research.
Her commitment to improving patient outcomes and her innovative approach to cardiac care will be invaluable as she embarks on a new journey as Clinical Lead for the network.
Since 2009 Christine has been providing care to patients with advanced heart failure and pulmonary arterial hypertension throughout SALHN and established a tertiary level heart failure service in Mt Gambier.
She has worked with the CALHN Centre of Advanced Heart and Lung disease as the Cardiac Lead to develop and standardise the management of advanced heart failure and heart transplant patients in CALHN.
She is actively involved in delivering education on a broad range of cardiac related topics, and is involved in heart failure clinical trials and Australian heart failure guidelines.
Christine strongly believes it is important to focus on the early detection of cardiac disease and optimisation of cardiac risk factor control to prevent and minimise the development of heart failure.

All South Australians with or at risk of cardiovascular disease will efficiently access, according to need, the highest quality care and achieve the best outcomes to minimise the burden of disease for the individual, family and community as a whole.
The Statewide Cardiac Care Clinical Network will work to ensure equitable access to comprehensive, evidence-based cardiovascular care across the life course and continuum of care, aimed at reducing the burden of cardiovascular disease for all population groups and communities in South Australia.
A multidisciplinary, highly skilled, inclusive workforce collaborating and cooperating across all Local Health Networks and health sectors will be focused on delivering the best possible outcomes for all South Australians, in a highly efficient, coordinated and sustainable system described by an updated South Australian Cardiac Services Plan.
The Statewide Cardiac Care Clinical Network will draw upon comprehensive, high quality, population health needs data, and real-time performance and outcome data to assist expert consensus service planning and drive continuous quality improvement. Innovation in and implementation of new or improved models of patient-focused care will seek to integrate appropriate new technologies.
The workforce will be connected, engaged and responsive to patient needs in the communities they serve and will deliver high quality care, teaching and research at both the national and international level.
