Operating Room Management Information System (ORMIS) Data Standardisation

The Surgical and Perioperative Care Statewide Clinical Network (SPCSCN) has identified an opportunity to improve the validity of surgery cancellation data across Local Health Networks (LHNs) in South Australia (SA). Currently, there is an absence of a consistent, statewide approach to the interpretation and utilisation of Operating Room Management Information System (ORMIS) surgery cancellation codes. This affects the validity of surgery cancellation data reporting. Improving data validity is pivotal to enable decision makers to obtain reliable insights into theatre utilisation efficiency and identify opportunities for strategic investment to improve surgery waitlist management and hospital flow.

The Network will be engaging nominated stakeholders across all LHNs to better understand the extent of the problem and, together, co-design a solution which can be implemented across the state.
