From the Commissioner
The Commission on Excellence and Innovation in Health (CEIH) works alongside and in partnership with the Department for Health and Wellbeing, our Local Health Networks, our workforce and consumer community, and other government agencies (both state and federal) creating health and prosperity for all.
To that end, we have listened widely and have taken the opportunity to finalise the CEIH Strategic Direction 2024-2027 and further align the work we do to the excellence and innovation agenda through building productive and effective partnerships with all our stakeholders, peers, and colleagues, and by harnessing the monumental opportunity afforded by digital transformation and the data and information agendas.
All that we do, and all that we are defined by, is rooted in our effectiveness and value as part of a complex ecosystem, shepherding and influencing a health agenda fit for the 21st century, and we are looking forward with enthusiasm and passion to working with each and every one of you in making South Australia’s health system one of safest, most innovative and most patient and consumer focussed in the world.
As always people are front and centre of all we do. Patients and consumers, our partners and critical stakeholders, and our wonderful dedicated, passionate, enthusiastic, innovative, and all-round excellent staff. My heartfelt thanks to each and every one of you for making my job so much easier, and for delivering real benefit and value across the system.
South Australia has so much to offer, but I think we all know that there is much that needs to be done now and into the future, to sustain the level of healthcare delivery we aspire to; to effectively and sustainably address the equity challenges faced by many in our society; and to effectively tackle the existential challenges of climate change and antimicrobial resistance.
We are all so privileged to be in a position where we can make a real and tangible impact on the health, wellbeing, and very lives of people across the length and
breadth of our state and beyond. Nowhere, other than in the delivery of healthcare, do people have this opportunity, so let’s ensure we grasp that opportunity with both hands and run wildly into the future as we contribute to the health and wellbeing of, and the delivery of great healthcare to, all South Australians.
Lastly, I extend my thanks to Dr Michael Cusack who did such an excellent job of leading the CEIH as interim Commissioner for 11 months before my appointment in
October 2023.
