We’re delighted to share that the Patient Reported Measures (PRMs) Program, launched in January 2024, has significantly enhanced both patient experience and clinical efficiency within the Radiation Oncology unit at the Royal Adelaide Hospital (RAH).
By empowering patients to complete online surveys before their appointments, the PRM program enabled patients to have more time to reflect on their concerns and feel better prepared for their appointments resulting in a more focused consultation with the clinicians.
Acting Nurse Unit Manager Angela Luppino estimates a clinical time savings of 20 – 40 minutes per patient at appointments, significantly benefitting both patients and staff.
Lead by Nurse Unit Manager (NUM) Gabby, the Radiation Oncology Team has been utilising the Distress Thermometer for three years, previously relying on paper-based surveys completed in clinic, which can be confronting for some patients. The transition to electronic pre-appointment surveys has streamlined the process, reducing patient anxiety and improving data collection.
The CEIH team comprising Commissioner Keith McNeil, Executive Director Katie Billing, PRM Program Director Megan Scott and Implementation Manager Marc Currie engaged with clinicians to gather feedback on their use and experience of the system.
A collaborative effort between the RAH and the CEIH, the PRM program has not only delivered a new survey platform but has also optimized clinical workflows. The partnership between clinical staff and the CEIH PRM team has been instrumental in the program’s success.
Ongoing analysis of patient data will continue to refine the program and drive further improvements in patient care.
